Sustainable agricultural online course development framework for community-based transformative learning

This paper examines the change drivers and challenges involved in transitioning of Water Research Commission’s Amanzi for Food training agricultural educators farmers’ face-to-face co-engaged course to an online aligned with Education Sustainable Development (ESD) (www.amanziforfood.co.za). The study drew on system thinking analyse components within development activity system. Insights from stakeholder engagement expansive learning processes fed into key emergent themes which informed e-learning processes. research highlights how implementation a sustainable programme using Information Communication Technology (ICT) tools bring together occurring different interconnected dimensions complex unpredictable ways. It became clear that utilise as mediating artifact capable facilitating social transformation towards suitability expansively, certain conditions needed be place. impacted tool included need find alternative platform broader dissemination Rain Harvesting & Conservation (RWH&C) knowledge alignment United Nations Goals (SDGs). concludes this transition requires specific tools, adequate time, understanding pedagogical functionalities (requiring upskilling digital literacy team other actors), workable data-efficient or data-free, smartphone-friendly communication platforms.
